a pentium 4 2.4ghz or amd xp2100 ??..

Technically the P4 has a higher clock cycle. The AMD runs at 1.73Ghz, but you could argue that the AMd does more work per clock cycle..

P4 is still quicker though.

P4, for speed, and quality

If you use the xp2100 with either Abit NF7-S or epox 8RDA+ you can easily overclock (and it will be stable) to 2,4 and save a bit of money. If budget is not a consideration, or you don't want to overclock get the p4.

But I would have thought a 2100xp would be nearly half the price of a p4 2.4? If you are buying a prebuilt system and its a choice of the two, most certainly the p4.

That was my point bigstan, you can get same speed for half the price. Though the xp2100 overclocked is not as stable as the p4 2.4 and you have to know a little about building systems.

ok what about a xp2400 (if there exists one) and pentium 4 2.4ghz .. somthing like that..is more of what i was looking for

Go for the P4. AMD is like the trailer trash of the CPU world. :D

AMD isn't that bad and I don't think it's half the price of a P4, but it's certainly a lot cheaper. P4 is difintely more stable, but many argue XP is like a cheap alternative to P4, but they're pretty much the same.

hood1971 says"if you don't want to overclock get the P4".Well IF you want to overclock,a c1 stepping P4 will overclock better than most AMDs.Use an Abit IT7 Max 2 Ver 2,and it will smoke the AMD!As for price, there is about a $50 premium for an Intel over the matching AMD cpu.By the way the P4 2ghz c 1 stepping chip will do 2.8,and be stable.

Well Ive just got one of the super clocking 1700 T'breds on my bros Epox 8RDA+ and doing (218 x 11) 2398Mhz! Which would blitz a P4 2.4 into the ground, and thie chip cost me 40 quid!

Not exactly 'trailer trash' I think you have to admit, vcore is at 1.7v, up from 1.5v. Not bad for nearly 1000Mhz overclock!

i have that exact processor for my current computer... what did you use to cool it down?..

ohyeah i decided to go for the pentium 4..... never had a pentium in my lifetime before so we'll see how it is!

I can't see you people comparing an overclocked AMD to a STOCK Intel! The Intel 2.4 can overclock to near 3gighz.My Abit/Intel 3.04 will run 4.25,with proper setup!Myself,if I want a 2.4 gig cpu I'll buy one.Overclocking is fun,but can be costly! Not to mention less stable, and I don't care how stable you say your AMD 1700 is!I do use both chips, but even the Barton can't touch the Intel chips for dependability!

I have an slk800 heatsink.

jeepers I totally agree with you. My 1700 is rock stable. But this thread title is about comparing a 2100xp to a 2.4P4 which itself isnt really a close comparison.

There are amd lovers and there are intel lovers. Each to their own eh?

not much to choose but I would go for the P4 cos it will probby be more stable under pressure

no budget = P4
budget = AMD

thats how I reckon it

I'm an AMD man myself :D

Geezis...this is surprising! My new job does'nt allow to hang around these forums half as much I used a few years ago, but things have sure changed! A year or two ago, a thread like this would have about 85% people voting AMD! Things seemed to have changed. Me? I';ve always been an Intel Man....rather spend the extra bucks and have a system that runs forever without giong down.

The P4 gets my vote....

i'll cast my vote for AMD all the way. More efficient use of power, IMO. Lower clock speed and same power, close anyway. Intel reminds me too much of M$................
