Jaymo@HSR! Apr 18, 2003, 09:24 PM I went through the tutorials and FAQS and couldn't find anything relavent to my question, so here it is.
I have a whole bunch of PS2 DVD-r backups (princo, ugh) that don't seem to be working anymore on my Majic3u V7 Ps2.
I just got a Pioneer A04 today, and tried to use Nero to "copy" FFX. I chose to let nero create an image 1st, vs. "write on the fly", to make sure that all of the info was still in-tact. The image was created without a problem, and then I burned my new DVD from it.
The game won't work. I can get the PS2 logo to show, but then nothing else happens.
Is there some settings that I should be changing when duplicating a DVD in Nero? BTW, I was burning to a princo disk, as I await my Riteks in the mail.
And also, has anyone else had problems booting princos with a Majic3u?
Thanks
RedHerring24 Apr 18, 2003, 10:08 PM As far as I know Final Fantasy 7 is a cd-r? I do the same method on my pioneerA05 with Nero Express. I use whitetop Princos and they work fine. (magic 2 chip) Letme know.
Jaice Apr 18, 2003, 11:38 PM FF7 is a 3 Disk CD PS1 game, you can also buy it for about 15$ new
Jaymo@HSR! Apr 18, 2003, 11:50 PM OOOOOPS, I mean FFX. My bad. :(, gonna go fix that.
Discwizard Apr 19, 2003, 12:06 AM It's the media, many people have had problems with skipping, not booting, freezing, etc with some of the Princo media, especially with version 4 PS2's and older. Jus do the same process over again when you get your Riteks, and you should be fine. Also, Verbatim, TDK, and Apple DVD-R are just as good. The problem is that Princo uses a lesser quality dye than the more premium brands, and the crappy older version PS2's have trouble reading it.
jesterrace777 Apr 19, 2003, 04:11 AM He is correct, Princos have been very tempermental for me (some work great, some don't) while Ritek and Fujifilm DVD-R will work perfectly every time. I transferred my Princos to Ritek and the games that were freezing up and very slow loading on Princo, have yet to freeze and have no trouble loading on the Ritek or Fujifilm discs. I hope this helps.
RedHerring24 Apr 19, 2003, 09:29 AM I had a bad copy of FFX on some Gold Topped Media. I got it onto APPLE media and it worked great. So try a diff media for that game. Its all about what works for you as it seems most people's ps2's have a mind of their own on what they like and dont like
Jaice Apr 20, 2003, 12:18 AM Mine was on Ritek, and it worded great, finsined it with no problems
Frostbite Apr 20, 2003, 01:23 AM I bought a 100-pack of Princo's at .60 a piece, i burn them and play them perfectly on my v1.0 xbox with a Matrix and ver.4 PS2 with a Magic 3. Some people bash these discs because they are crappy but I have great respect for these low cost good quality discsin my experience. I like them. Until I see sharper pictures and crisper sound on games by using expensive DVD-R's then .. yeah, I'll see how much Ritek and Apple discs are better but I think the Princo's hold thier own just fine. Long live the white tops...

Long live the white tops... It all comes down to whether or not your game console(s) will read them or not. Simple fact Princos work in most cases, Riteks work in almost all cases. If you are getting Princos to work then that is great as they are a good cheaper alternative. I on the other hand think it's worth the extra $ to go with Ritek and to play it safe (That and I like having the option of ordering Riteks in packs of 25 so I don't have to drop nearly $100 each time I want discs).

When I 1st bought my v7 magic3u premod, I also bought 50+ games on princo media. Within a month or so, only about 8 still worked. And that's still the case today.
Redogs5 Apr 20, 2003, 05:58 PM check all your mod solder points first and make sure nothing has come loose, becuase i would think if you could play princo's at one point, you should be able to always play them, and that should not be the prolem, unless your laser has gone bad.
pepsik Apr 21, 2003, 06:43 PM It's a v7.....your laser is probably good. Give the laser a good cleaning with a disk based cleaner. Usually does the trick.
