Any one here successfully adjusted their PSU Pots? My new Enermax 460 watt is a little low on the +12 rail, any other way to increase it beside the pots, or did anyone have success with adjusting them (pots)?

ps2wiz Apr 22, 2003, 04:41 PM Any one here successfully adjusted their PSU Pots? My new Enermax 460 watt is a little low on the +12 rail, any other way to increase it beside the pots, or did anyone have success with adjusting them (pots)? MasterMind Apr 22, 2003, 04:57 PM You can do it PS2, besides you have DMM and a point at which you can check the voltage. ps2wiz Apr 22, 2003, 05:08 PM Ok, thanks. But some one just told me that Enermax doesn't include Pots on their PSU's? Can anyone confirm or deny this? I don't want to void the warranty for nothing. QWERTY Apr 22, 2003, 06:39 PM What do you mean by "a little low"? It sounds like you're concerned about nothing. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. If it is broken, since its brand new, just return\exchange it and stop needlessly mucking with it. DIABLO Apr 22, 2003, 06:42 PM I checked my enermax psu for pots once and it did'nt have them. ps2wiz Apr 22, 2003, 08:16 PM Its not broken, but im not impressed with its performance. I rather just raise the pots a little bit then waste some money on shipping. If you can't help me, then please restrain from the needless coments. Wopah Apr 23, 2003, 01:25 AM I don't recommend playing with the pots. If you do its possible to set them to high and could blow the psu up though I've never tried or heard someone else doing this, but Im sure it could happen. vasu Apr 23, 2003, 02:29 AM NO it won't happen. But its always better to carry out the process by an expert. QWERTY Apr 23, 2003, 12:28 PM Originally posted by ps2wiz Its not broken, but im not impressed with its performance. It's just a power supply, what's to be impressed about? Is it working or not? You still didn't answer what you mean by "a little low". If it's something ridiculously insignificant like +11.97v or something then you definately are concerned about nothing. You'll find most power supplies are never exact and are going to fluctuate based on load, heat, age. Your Enermax has a fluctuation rate of +/-10% on the +12v rail, so no matter what you do the voltage will probable change again. You're just trying to fix something that isn't broken... ps2wiz Apr 23, 2003, 05:17 PM I don't think I would be worried about .03 volts... Its usually runs 11.85-11.92 volts, most users are happy with this, but I need all the extra voltage for a good overclock. ps2wiz Apr 23, 2003, 05:23 PM Wopah I don't think I would be dumb enough to do that, i've adjusted pots on a ps2 laser, in which did solve the problem. vasu There are no "pot adjusting experts," mainly becasue this a consumer tweak. I know all the risks that are envolved with this. Please don't tell me its to dangerous or you shouldn't do it, I think I should make the final decision. I am well aware of all the risks. MasterMind Apr 24, 2003, 02:27 PM Just go ahead PS2, if at all those POTs are present in your PSU. Nothing will happen. I am sure about it. There is no POT in PSU which changes your voltage levels to extreme. Only one precaution though.... don't attach anything to it unless you are assured. You are right about it... but everyone here (including me) is playing rather safe. One more thing about the man above.. Vasu, is from my vicinity and the only expert I know from my town. I have hardly seen his advice going down. |
