I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Smelt a slight burning after leaving the PC running for 2 hrs so had a good sniff around the case and then realised that the graphics card fan wasn't working :(

Are there replacement fans available?

Cheers

If your fan quit working there is a good chance that something on the card shorted out. to be honest i don't know about replacing just the fan. The fan on my gf3 stopped and figured it would just be easier to buy a new card, but i needed an upgrade any how. The gf4ti is a newer card and is going to be expensive to replace. Go with ati...they blow Nvida out of the water anyways. The ati 9000 pro is a solid card, but if you really want performance spend a lot of cash and go for the fastest card available...radeon's 9800 pro.

I contacted the maker of my Geforce (Creative) when the fan packed up and they sent me one free
Give it a try but failing that there are a few places online that will sell them, the just don't actually sell them as graphic card fans (maybe as chipset fans)

As for just going out and buying a new card.........well

the geforce4 heatsink fan layout is a little different then other cards and the older geforce cards you'll need a hsf designed for geforce4 i seen some from ZALMAN and thermaltake to suite

Thanks for the replies guys, i've written to pixelprice gong to see what happens. Planning on putting watercooling in my PC in a couple of months so don't want to blow a load of £££s on a fan for this!

basically instead of having fans to cool CPU, GPU and Northbridge you can use water to cool them.

Most users can experience a drop in temperatures of 10ºC or more with the added bonus of a silent PC......ahhhhhh silence! :D Here´s (www.wetandchillypchips.co.uk) a link to the kit i'll most probably be getting. I'm going to get a GPU heatsink as well and just connect the CPU and GPU in series.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, water cooling can provide pretty much ideal conditions for overclocking as well, obviously taking into account you need a good mobo and RAM aswell.

I would say get a zalman, but if the fam died then I would guess your graphics card has as well. I burnt out a geforce4 and the fan was still working. There eas a small smoke plume coming from under the fan though. If it smells burnt its more than likely to be dead.

Amazingly it still works, booted into windows to check with a normal fan blowing air onto it and then switched it off.
Anyway i got a reply from pixelprice and i've got a return number now and will send it off on Monday. I will insist on a replacement because it still smells burnt.
Thanks for the replies again.

BigStan: After taking the heatsink and fan apart i don't think that the cooling for the card is very good at all but lets see what pixelprice say. Fingers crossed on a replacement :)

EDIT: Glad i kept my old GF2 MX400 :D
