ive had my PIONEER DVDRW 104 for about 8 months and ive burned about
200 films but recently ive noticed something strange
after ive burnt a disc the surface is 2 different shades of colour
its light purple from the centre to about 1cm from the edge of the disc and then it a lighter purple after that
is my writer on the way out or has any1 else noticed this?

What was so hard 2 understand about his post? I understood that he meant there were 2 shades to his burn. Have u tried changing the media u r using D1ggler? What type of media r u using? R the dvd-rs still playing as well as they used 2?

also, the firmware is a factor and the rated speed of the media you're using
this problem showed itself when i tried to burn @2x one 1x rated media

if you search i think there is another thread from awhile back which covers this in more detail

As long as the completed ones work, what does it matter?

im using DATAWRITE CLASSIC 2x media and burning them @ 2x
ive burnt about 75 of these before and they were ok
they still play alright but i was just worried that my writer is on its way out

the only thing i can think of that could have caused this is when i was burning a disc and it was about 75% complete when the electricity went
do you think this could have anything to do with it?

yeah, try unplugging the computer from wall for a full minute or more so it can reset inside.,

It's the dye. It's just a bad batch of disc. Had this problem before, burn completely but there was a shade of different color. This was on princo, try different patch, work alright.

I think I have the same problem you have. I have a Pioneer A05, and use Rocord Max to burn.
I tried different media that I know for a fact used to work, now doesn't, and the problem seems to be getting worse.
At the outer edge of the burn it gets lighter,
and in my case "fuzzy" not the distinct contrast that is normal. I also get a error message when the disc is verified.

I've just started to get the same problem as you have burnt about 150 discs on my 104 using F/W 1.31 I was using traxdata and unbranded riteks at 2 speed, recently used some datasafe media 2 speed(Ritek) and they have had the same problem with the last bit of the movie freezing up ,but when i look at the colour of the dye it has gone a diffrent shade towards the end of the burn,so at first I thought it was the discs, but i have gone back to the unbranded and this has the same problem as the datasafe,so i have gone back to burning @ 1 speed with better results but about 1 in 5 still fail to burn 100%.
I don't know if it is the burner packing up or what?

ive also gone back to burning @ 1 speed m8 and they seem to be alright at the mo, ive yet to try different media @ 2 speed so ill let you know if they still fail near the edgeof the disc.
i honestly think that its the burner itself tho, i might get in contact with pioneer and see what they have to say

Ok d1ggler

If u get any joy out of pioneer or find some other way of getting back to burning at 2 speed with success, then I would be grateful if u could post back on here or get in contact.
cheers

I had the same problem with my 104 when I switched to the ritek "O1ne" disks. Depending how far to the edge the movie went the more 'steps' I got.

I switched media and alls cool (datawrite grey or yellow tops)
