Hey folks...

Got a slight problem...I was using DVDxCopy and it seemed to work fine, mostly because it was so easy. Well, the computer crashed and the password to register the program went with it (I know...stupid, stupid, stupid). So now I can't put the DVDxCopy back on there. I bought the program off ebay from a retailer who I can't get to return any emails. And DVDxCopy don't have me down as the registered person. So I am screwed. SOOOOO....

I was going to buy a new copy of DVDxCopy but thought "Hey, is it the best thing to use? I bet the fine folks at (insert forum name here) would know!" I see this Pinnacle Instant Copy at the stores. Will is automatically split the dvd for me to make exact copy? How hard is it to use and to use an encryption program....easy being key.

Thanks folks for your help and patience

im new to this and i aint had no problems yet (touch wood!)
im using
smartripper ......freeware
stomp record max now ................that may cost u $ or £'s

heres how i was told to do it on this forum if u read it properly its childs play m8.

I'm by no means an expert. And I am sure there are better ways to do things
and a lot of more advance techniques. But I like to keep it simple and as a
newbie you should probably do the same. Anyway this is my process.

Ripping
1. Put DVD in DVD player/writer
2. Start SmartRipper, it should recognize your DVD and the files within.
3. Click the "file" button, select all files.
4. [Optional] If you want click the "option" button and choose options to
delete region codes, un-macrovision, etc.
5. Create/choose empty directory on HDD to rip to. You should have at least
15G of free space for the entire process.
6. Click "start".
7. Depending on the speed of your DVD player/writer, it will take between a
few to 20 minutes.

[Optional] Re-authoring or Re-encoding
1. Check the size of the directory of the ripped files. If it is under 4.4 G
then you can skip this section because everything can fit on one DVD as is.
(Commercial DVDs often come as dual layered holding over 9G. Retail DVD
burner can only burn single layer of 4.7G, effective 4.4G because of file
headers, overhead, etc.)
2. This is the the most complicated part of the process. If you have more
than 4.4 G you have two choices. Both can be done using DVDShrink. When you
start DVDShrink you'll see both functions. DVD2One will probably makes this
part easier but it cost $$ while DVDShrink is free.
2a. Re-encoding - This means keeping everything and compress them to fit
onto one DVD-R. This is very easy with DVDShrink. Try this first. It will
show you different compression ration. Just choose the biggest one under
4.4G. Re-encode the files to another empty directory. If the compression
results in lower quality try re-authoring.
2b. Re-authoring - This means picking just the chapter(s) you want. A DVD
movie usually comes with menu, trailers, multiple languages, subtitle, 4x3,
and 16x9 version. If you just want the movie part it is usually under 4.4G.
Re-author the files to another empty directory.
3. Sometimes the results of re-authoring may still be over 4.4G. You can
then go through re-encoding of the re-authored stuff. DVDShrink can work on
HDD as well as DVD.

[Optional] Checking your result first
1. To minimize coaster production, you can use program like PowerDVD to play
the the movie from the HDD to see if it is ok before burning.

Burning
1. If you files are not under a directory called VIDEO_TS already, create
the directory VIDEO_TS (in uppercase for maximum compatibility). Move all
the files in there. Also create an empty directory called AUDIO_TS.
2. Run RecordNow Max. DO NOT USE THE WIZARD. Pick DVD writer to record to.
Choose create data disk. Select the VIDOE_TS and AUDIO_TS directories to be
burnt. You shouldn't have to touch other options. Start recording. Depending
on the speed of your writer and blank disk, this may take anywhere from 15
minutes to just over one hour.
i hpoe this helps

Thanks....

Have you heard of Pinnacle Instant Copy? I was wondering since it seems to compress and burn, if I all I would have to do is rip the DVD and then go to that program...

Thanks !

DVD Shrink will Rip & Transcode

DVD20ne will transcode & Burn, if you get the add-on CopytoDVD

DVDShrink is freeware and is worth looking at first.

All you need with both of these, is a ripping program, like DVD Decrypter (freeware) and your normal burning software
