Wassup guys, right now I'm really stoked because today I just got my DVD burner which is the Sony Dru500ax. I was originally looking into getting a cheaper -R drive, but I thought I might as well go all out and get one which will do both formats. I must say it's really good and I'm very happy.
So far I've made countless PS2 games, but I'm not having too much luck backing up DVD's just yet.
I tried making a copy of Ghost Ship which I think is a DVD9 since it's bigger than the standard 4.7gig (4.38). What I do is this and it hasnt worked on my stand alone DVD player after I burn:
Put DVD in Drive
Use DVD shrink to extract VOB files into a folder......
open nero and dvd DVD Video
Put everything Shrink took out into the VIDEO_TS part of the folder NERO opens....
and then I burn,
But when I try it it wont work.......Any Help guys? What am I doing wrong?

A few things to look at :
1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Nero, as some versions had a DVD compliancy issue.
2. Make sure you are using a good quality disk (Riteks are good). Some of th budget ones are ok for data, but not for movies.
3. Chek your Satandalone player can play dvdr's

Are there any error messages or anything when it fails? I have the same burner and use the same method without problems. I usually OK multisession though I don't really know how that affects things.

Thanks guys.
I do have the latest version of NERO and my DVD does read cdr's and DVD-r's. And there's no error messages that show. Btw, TDK is the media that I have.
Am I using the correct steps and stuff though? I tried it once using DVDDecrypter to extract the VOB files so that cant be the problem. I think it's when I burn.
guess it's one of those things where you have to make a few coasters or two to figure things out. Too bad DVD-r's arent even close to the price of cdr's:laugh:

You appear to be doing everything correctly, so I wonder if it's just a media issue.
I would try a rewritable disk, until you resolve it. Otherwise, try a Ritek disk, as these are probably the best media for all round compatibility with standalone players.
Also, you might try a different movie, just in case there's something odd/non standard with Ghost Ship.
You didn't mention, but do your burnt disks play in your PC ?

Are you supposed to put all the IFO and BUP files into the VIDEO_TS folder with the VOB files? Or do you just put the VOB files in there? That can be my problem

:) That would be your problem.
You must include all the files produced by DVDShrink. The ifo (info) files tell your standalone what to do with all the files and contain all the info (navigation/chapters/audio/formats etc.)
The bup (backup) files are just an exact copy of the ifo files. I believe the firmware in standalones, will search for these if the ifo files are unreadable or not found, a kind of failsafe.
