Help... I modded my box no problem, but am having problems with 2 friends systems.
I've got two Xboxes to mod for friends. One is an older 2001 manufactured date of 2001, V.1.0 I guess, the other is a newer V1.1 not sure how to determine which is which.
First issue:
Chips are Matrix with EvoX D.6RED. I was able to seed the Matrix successfully on the Version 1.0 XBOX. But after several 100's of trys can't get the Matrix to go green on the older XBOX V1.0. I'm pretty sure it's flashed correctly because I get get it to seed successfully on my XBOX, V1.0. Is there a trick to lining up the Martix on a V1.0?
Second issue:
I've installed a new 120 Samsung HD in the XBOX that has the correct Matrix alingment. I've used the XboxHDprepper to prepare the new drive just like I did with mine. I can't get the XBOX to boot from the Evolution disk in the DVD with the new drive connected. I hook up my 100GB WD drive and it works perfect, (Well boots from the HD).
a.) Do you think it's the HD?
b.) Version of bios on the Matrix?
Thanks for your help!!! saintgames

First issue...
A trick? Well not really... but if you leave the power on and tighten the screw just enough to leave it movable that usually works. Make sure the switches are on on(mode 1). Just keep fiddlin till you get the green light then tighten the screw. That and the install guide shows you three holes that you can use to line the chip up in the general area. The bios shouldn't be a factor. I accidentally installed mine without any bios flashed and got it to light green.
Second Issue...
I'll assume your bios are loading on this xbox with the bad HDD. Otherwise the other HDD wouldn't work. That being the case... you may have to use another disk. The xbox shouldn't have to access the hard drive to load anything from the dvd drive. It might also be the cable position. Check out the old hard drive and look to see where the jumper is set to. Most are set to CS (Cable Select). Make sure your new drive is set up the same. Also give Slayer's auto installer a try. I know it works like a breeze when the hdd is brand new. Not sure on one that you used HDDPrepare on.
Take Care...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought matrix wouldnt work in one of the versions because the D0 is in a different spot.

Thanks Slomar, You've been very helpful. I tried your recommended trick already. It seemed to work for the other two boxes but not the one in questions.
Can anyone support Mr Snatcher?

Its the very latest v1.2 that the d0 has been moved in. The Matrix will work on the v1.0 and the v1.1.

Here's an update. Any final suggestions would be helpful.
Second issue: Has been resoloved. It was a jumper setting on the HD. The drive required a second jumper. All went smooth after I figured this out. So, one machine is done.
First issue: Still has me stumped. I know the chip is ok because I've installed it in mine. I've tried three matrix chips. No matter what I do I can't get the Matrix to go green on this box. I've left it plugged in and tried to jiggle it. No luck. I think this is a version 1.0 but maybe a 1.1.
Any last offers for suggestions???
On an interesting note, well to me... When I modded the second box that is working I noticed that the solder pads were indented like a Martix had been previously installed. The guy told me that he bought the Xbox brand new. It didn't matter and the Matrix worked fine. Just thought it was funny that a "new" machine would have a used motherboard in it. Sounds like it should have been sold as a referb.

Final update for those interested and for possible help to others when searching the forum.
Both machines are now up and running. The machine that had a problem was an easy mod after I slightly sanded the connection points. Apparently this Xbox had a lacker type of sealant over the system board. Lightly sanding the points allowed the Matix to make a clean contact and synced right away.
