I cant for some reason install winxp pro.

I keep getting ''so and so file is missing or corrupted'' during the file copy process and I would get this blue screen of fatal error.

I have two version of win xp - one with Sevice pack - so I'm sure theres nothing wrong with the disks.

I have managed to install the OS many times before without any probs but this problem just occured out of the blue.

I'm thinking MS must have infected my computer with a virus or something after finding out I've been using a dodgy copy

Is there any way around this problem?

I'm sick to death of Win 98.

1st try copying the cd to HD, if all the files are copy ok then there's nothing wrong with the CD.

Make a boot disk with win98 and if you want to format the drive format it, if not boot with the bootdisk and run xp setup from DOS. HTH

I have seen this problem a few times and it has always been down to dodgy RAM.

Thanks mate.

Looks like it was dodgy ram.

Took out the shitty ram stick I put in and everything works fine.

I would have never guessed Win XP is so sensitive to quality of the ram
