Was copying a file from my laptop to desktop pc (laptopis xp pro and desktop xp home- it was an avi file of 700mb), and during the copying i got a windows explorer error message which when i clicked ok it terminated the copying (without the copying being finished)- but now i have a file which i can't open and can't delete- i've tried deleting through windows explorer and through the dos prompt and for both the message that comes up is that the file is being used by another program- i've rebooted the computer a couple of times and tried but it didn't help- anyone know how i can remove this file?
Thanks guys in advance!

Run scandisk first. Try to delete the file using Win98SE Bootdisk available at www.bootdisk.com

Does xp home have scandisk?
I have a copy of windows 98 se (the cd)- which options should i choose- boot from cd and then exit to dos? i tried that and it didn't recognise my c/d drive (my hd is partitioned into 2- using ntfs file system)

For XP Scandisk info look Here (http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/tips/scandisk_xp.html) mate. First Run the check.
Oh, NTFS... I am sorry about 98SE Bootdisk suggestion. XP don't have support for pure mode DOS. Okay... try to copy the same file to the same location again.

I did a virus check- got norton antvirus 2002- (and the updates haven't run out yet).
Its strange, it seems to be localised to a folder where i keep all my films in avi format. e.g. trying to rename or even double clicking on a file in that folder causes this error to come up- but opening any of my work files e.g excel, word etc. and even mpegs of tv series i keep in other folders all work without a problem- the folder is pretty huge now (running into 10's of gigs) could it be something to do with that?.
ONce the error comes up i can ignore it and carry on renaming or copying files to that folder but eventually a second error (one of those terminate or debug type errors) comes up which pretty much prevents me doing anything else.
