I have a home built system with an athlon 1700xp cpu, soyo board, 512 meg ddr memory, radeon 9000 video card, and a 60 gig maxor hd. About half the time when I go to turn on my computer you can hear the fan start up, the cdrom drive lights blink, but no beeps and no video signal. I have to manually shut it down, and turn it on again, and it boots up fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?

First thing I would do is run scandisk, as when it hapene with my old PC, it turned out the HDD was bad. Could also be overheated components, bad mobo/BIOS. You get system lockups also? Particularly during say, playing a game, ripping a DVD, etc.

When I get it booted it works smooth as silk. The hd is brand new and scandisk nor norton disk doctor find anything wrong with it. Its running at a nice 47C so it not heat related. I thought maybe the motherboard was grounded or something, but I couldn't find any evidence of this, besides I don't think it would boot at all if that were the case. I tried turning the fsb speed back down to 100mhz but it didn't help. All the jumpers seem to be in order. Its got me completely mystified.
