I recently bought a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard and installed it with my 512 MB PC2700 DDR-RAM (333MHz).

But when I turn on my computer my monitor wouldn't turn on, and I get this spoken message:

"System failed memory test" (Or something like that).

I looked it up, and in the trouble-shooting it says that my RAM's properly isn't working....

But that can't be, as I recently borrowed them out to a friend, and they are working fine in his computer.

So my question is, if my motherboard can't handle certain RAM-types/brands, or something needs to be set-up on the motherboard(i.e. jumpers or something)?

I have installed many motherboards and never had this problem before.

The only thing left on my mind is that the motherboard itself is malfunctioning....But it's brand new, so I don't hope that...

Any ideas ??

My system is like this:

CPU: AMD XP 2100
MOBO: ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
RAM: 1 x 512 MB DDR-RAM PC2700 333MHz
GFX: GeForce4 Ti4200 128 MB RAM
HDD's: 1 x 45 GB IBM + 1 x 120 GB Western Digital
PSU: 400W Thermal Take

well, try boosting up the voltage on the ddr thru cmos/bios

i have the a7n8x deluxe....and the board is picky with memory...
so try getting some new one if u can or RMA the board/Memory.

Also upgrade the bios.

As the man said, the board is very picky about memory. Check Asus' website and see if there are tests listed for RAM (as AOpen displays on their site). You can also check www.newegg.com as many people there have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe and have the same problem as you. If you read the product reviews, you'll find someone who can confirm which RAM works on your mobo. For future reference, that Asus mobo also has probs with some sounds cards, so check around before buying hardware for it. :)

i`m running the deluxe board with memory from crucial.com which is specific for the asus board, and she quite often tells me the same thing, but boots up with no problems, and continues to operate with no problems.
what else is happening at boot up on your system?
the monitor should turn on well before the memory spoken message.
is the video card installed correctly? i believe it checks the memory for that first, and you should see it doing so.

Well, I had a friend to come over yesterday and we tried to exchange RAM-blocks

It turned out that the board IS very picky regarding RAM-brand/type.

My RAM was working fine on his computer, and vice versa, so now I'll just have to buy some new RAM.

But thx for the replies :)

btw, what does it mean, when you say that you "RMA" a board ??

Oh, one last question :)

Which DDR400 RAM's (min. 1 x 512 MB module), would you recommend for this board ?

RMA = Return Materials Authorization ... in short, it means they returned it for repair/replacement. :)

DDR400 ... I would recommend Kingston HyperX RAM m8. It's fairly cheap (I paid $75 USD for 512MB DDR333 ... but they also make DDR400) and it's great. CL=2 btw, none of that 2.5 crap so it's slightly faster than most. ;) Also been tested and working with the nVidia chipsets, no problems. p.s. don't confuse Kingston ValueRAM with Kingston HyperX. The ValueRAM is a bit crap. :D

Thx a lot :)

I've been looking at these:

DDR-SDRAM PC3200 Kingston HyperX 512MB CL2
Type: DDR-SDRAM PC3200 184-pins
Bit: 64bit(72bit)
Latency: 6ns
Speed: 400MHz

If I buy 2 blocks of these, will I be able to run them as dual-channel on the board, or is it required to buy specific dual-channel RAM ?

(Yes yes, I know it sounds stupid, but I just wanna be sure) :)

I have the same board, and I am running two of these modules:
TwinMOS PC2700 DDR-DIMM 256MB CL2 32M*8/8chip, 184-P (for DDR-PC333MHz)

Sometimes, that creepy voice says "memory test failed", but it boots up just fine, and the computer is behaving stable, I leave it on for days running the UD agent. No problems whatsoever. :)
I hope for a new BIOS version soon, hopefully this could be fixed. On the other hand, I am not getting any error message on screen, only with voice, so maybe the voice error reporting is buggy?
