I had a nearly new desktop with a 200w PSU running a P4 2.4 with all the trimmings running perfect. A power surge blew the board and rather than replace it with the original I replaced it with a PCchips board and a Duron 1300 as I didn't need anything more powerful. It won't boot up now but if I try a 300w PSU it will.
Problem is the 300W psu is too big to go into the desktop case. Surely a P4 2.4 takes more power than a little 1300 duron? Am I missing something or what. i know AMD recommend a 300W PSU but I should get away with a 200w on a small board like this

a 200w on a P4?? LMAO!! Damn m8, you were pushing your luck from the get-go. Not sure what type of case this is that won't fit your PSU but you got 2 options ... (1) buy another case, even a cheap-o $20 case so it'll fit the PSU. (2) mod the current case to fit the 300w PSU. I had a 230w PSU for my 500mhz Celeron so you running a P4 or AMD 1300 on a 200 is just a bad idea all-around.

Gotta agree with 420 on the 200 PSU. Buy a new case and put AT LEAST a 300 in it. Was this PC a DELL or Gateway, by chance? Newegg has "raidmax" cases for 20 bucks, and they can't be beat for the price.

Many thanks Guy's, It was tagged as Elonex so I'm not sure who's made it!

Now to find someone who sells a 300W psu to fit ( the one thats in it about 2" shorter than all th e300w psu's I've seen.

Good luck. Most PSU's are industry standard, meaning they are all the same size. If your desperate to keep the case, try locating the manufactor, as they might have one to fit. Be warned, this is gonna be costly. Good luck............

m8 i would try to find who ever made the pc and get your money back as putting a 200w psu in with a P4 is like running a rocket on FANTA

Your mobo states the recomended PSU in the manual, which is usually 350+
