Hey, is there any other program I can run other than task manager to find out what is using my CPU. Right now, I have nothing running, other than explorer and internet connection, and my cpu usage keeps jumping around from 20-50% and so on, and it does not show what is using the cpu in task manager. I am using win2k with all updates, 512 megs ddr, and a freshly installed hard drive.

I have winxp but the task manager should be the same for win2k.
To see what's using the cpu, you need to change to the processes tab. In this window, it shows all the processes running along with how much cpu it is using (in %).

don't know if this will help, but here goes. Some software has issues with 2000, and will use 20-50 percent of CPU, even when idle. NAV 2001 has a know issue for this, but was fixed in 2002. Find out what progy is using the cpu and then disable it, if its not important. From what i've seen the cpu gauge on 2000/xp is pretty reliable.
