Ok been looking into buying a 105 dvd burner. My question is, what is the difference between pioneer and cendyne? Is the cendyne a reboxed pionner, or the other way around? This isn't an HP/compaq deal is it, or are they completely different burners?

"Is the cendyne a reboxed pionner"

yep, says so on the box too most of the time.

It's the exact same burner. The Cendyne105 actually comes with an IDE cable, power cable and a few software programs though. I have this drive and when I plugged it in to the PC it was detected as the Pioneer105 and all of my DVD burning software also says it's a Pioneer105. I would go for the Cendyne if you can find a good deal on it.

I think it was CPU magazine that gave the Cendyne a better rating than the A05. Go with the Cendyne

BTW: What's the proper way to pronouce "Cendyne" ?

"Cendyne"

Cheap. Rebates take a long time to come, if they do.

I think he meant how you would actually say it (hence pronounce). Anyway it can be picked up for $230 at staples without any rebates to worry about so no waiting to get it for that price. If he wants to go dual format however he can get the new dual format Cendyne (relabeled Verbatim) at Costco for $230. He can then pricematch it to Staples and knock off an additional 10%. Staples also has a coupon for $30 off (instantly) any purchase over $150 so add that coupon to the deal and you can pick up the +/- Cendyne for around $180+shipping.:D

try staples. Take them to the counter for a price scan.

I read their hp 200i are scanning in at about $105!

Yeah but I wouldn't want a 2.4x DVD+R/+RW only burner at this point. I would only get a 4x DVD-R/-RW drive or a 4x dual format drive (+/-) although it might be good to buy the HP at that price and resell it on ebay.

Are you comparing the Pioneer to the HP or the Cendyne? If it's with the HP then I agree with you 100% as the HPs don't have the greatest reputation. If you are talking about the Cendyne then I suggest you read the earlier posts because Cendyne=Pioneer.
