Hi,

I am looking to backup some of my PS2 games and was wondering the following.

1: What software do I need to perform the backup.

2: Do all games backup up even if they are protected.

3: Whats the best MOD chip to use.

4: Are PS2 original disks 4.7 gig or 9 Gig in size

If anyone knows of any tutorials I would be appreciated.

Thanks very much

1 if you want swap magic software you will need to use a no-solder mod with it or use the knife trick.

2 doesent boot dvd-9 and doesent boot splinter cell.(very few game don't play.

3.with swap magic it is the no solder mod but the non swap modchip i would say the messiah 2 clone (£20).

4. most are 4.7gb(dvd-5) but only a few are 9gb(dvd-9 e.g mgs2:substance).

For software pretty much any burning program will work (unless it is for DVD movies only like DVD X COPY). Recordnow Max, Nero and Alcohol 120% seem to be the current favorites (yes in that order). There are some PS2 games that require downloadable patches but other than that about 99.9% of all PS2 games can be backed up (provided you have a DVD burner).

The best modchip is the Messiah2, most PS2 games are DVD5, few like MGS2Sub, Xenosaga, are DVD9

Does everyone agree that all DVD burning software and burners basically do the same thing and that media is probably the most important component to making a successful backup?

Or, is there a combination of these 3 that is better?

My success rate is 1 out of 4 game. Some games, I can't even back up...even using the same method that was used for a successful burn. This is really beginning to depress me :bawling: Any help is appreciated!

My specs:

v3 PS2 (No gap BIOS)
DUO2 SE modchip

LG 4120B 12X DVD-Burner
P3-900 MHz, 256MB RAM
20Gb Maxtor HD

DVD Decypter to image
Alcohol 120% to burn

Media I have tried: Memorex, Maxell, Sony, TDK, Verbatim

It depends what kind of chip there is in the ps2 as to what media it wants.

dude do as I say and not what I do. #1 dms3 plus modchip and install, do not try to install yourself. it is very complicated as i wrecked my v9 ps2. #2 download nero 6.3 and choose dvd or cd depending on which type of original you have. #3 copy to hd first then at 1X or else you will have problems later on. end of story, got it? get it? now go get it tiger rrrrrrrrrrrrow.
