Hi all,

I recently built a system up for a friend of mine and no matter what I do I just cannot get the damn thing to post. It powers up and all the drives kick in including the hard drive, but the screen remains dark, no beeps, nada. I have changed the memory with no luck. I have pulled the CPU out and checked the pins but everything seems fine. Removed the one expansion card in there, but still the same.

The system comprises of the following:-

PC Chips (Yes, I know crap) M810L Motherboard
AMR Modem
256mb Ram PC133 Sdram
Athlon XP1800

The graphics and sound are built in to this board and that's what my friend wants to use. It would be helpful if the thing beeped at me so I could diagnose the problem. I have checked all the jumpers and connections and everything is correct. I have tried turning the speaker cable the other way around just incase but no joy there. I have reset the CMOS numerous times but no luck either. Any ideas what the problem is, as I suspect it is probably the motherboard or CPU where the fault is. But as I have said before, without the beeps no idea. I have even disconnected all the drives as well but no luck either. I think it is kaput, any ideas people?

Cheers,

Ace

You have done everything m8. Now try with basic components only. Remove all the expansion card including AMR card. Keep mobo, CPU, RAM, Keyboard, Monitor and PSU intact. If possible, pull the Mainboard out from cabinet. No need to keep any drives in circuit.

If no luck then I feel its a Compatibility issue of CPU with Mainboard.

Yep... that is what I mean to say. Have you checked the specifications of motherboard, AceRickford?

Hi There,

Yes I have checked the specs and it will handle up to a 2200 Athlon XP. It even has the XP sticker next to the Socket itself. So do you reckon it is definetly the motherboard and/or processor then that is shot?

By the way I did try with the AMR card removed but no joy.

Cheers,

Ace

Unlikely I suppose considering it's a new mobo, but have you checked the capacitorsto make none are leaking/fried? Even with no CPU, most mobos will at least post assuming they're not defective.

Hi 420,
Yeah, checked them but from what I can see they look fine.

Anyway I am sending both the board and chip back to the retailer so that they can have a look.

Cheers,

Ace
