Hi there,

I have this annoying problem. I burnt 3gb of zip and exe files to a DVRW when I click on the drive icon it says there is only 1.99gb on the disk. Yet all 3gb are there. The programs work etc.

So i went and did another 2 DVDRW's and I get the same thing. It stops at 1.99gb. I tried multisession, DVD copy etc same results.

When I put in one of DVD's that I bought that has 4.5gb of programs the computer reads them the right way. It also reads DVD movies just fine.

Any one have any ideas on how to fix this? TIA

I am running Windows ME, using Nero 5.5.8.5 my burner is a Memorex DVD+RW/+R

You need NTFS! ME, as far as i know doesnt support that file system. So you need win2000 or xp.

Try doing a quick erase of the DVDRW before burning.

Also, get the new version of Nero, as many bugs have been fixed since 5.5.8.5

You dont need NTFS unless you have single files to burn which are greater than 4gb.

PhilEnfield is right the FAT 32 limitation doesn't come in till you reach over 4GB. All the same it is well worth it to upgrade to an OS that will support NTFS as the 4GB limit just so you can take advantage of all of the available space on your DVD disc (not to mention it will greatly increase the number of full version backups that you can do). An upgrade in your NERO software would be a good start to fix your current problem though.

Well I upgraded Nero and still no change. I fail to see how it's the OS because the computer shows the correct disk size on DVD's (both data and movies) that I didn't burn myself. If it was the OS it would only report the disk size as 1.99gb instead of the 4.6gb and higher on any DVD placed in the drive.

Is this only happening with DVDRW's or does it happen with DVDR's too ?

Never burned a DVDR yet. Just ben backing up stuf to DVDRW. The DVD's that I have that came with programs on them are of course DVDR's. I will burn a DVDR and see how it goes.

Probably hidden files, did you look at those?

OK so I found out that it's a problem with burning multisession DVD's. If I burn everyting all at once it works fine. If I burn a multisession DVD+RW or a DVD+R than I get the 1.99gb thing. I can burn multisession CDR's just fine. Multisession CDRW's are hit n miss.
