I'm thinking of buying Sony DAV-S880. I just need to know if it is picky with playing DVDR/RW or DVD silver?

Umm might I suggest changing your last "p" word up there. Go to www.dvdrhelp.com to find out more info about that Sony. The vast majority of DVD Players will play quality DVDR (I wouldn't use RW if I was you as they are less compatible and more expensive). Brand makes a big difference. I would recommend starting out with: Verbatim, Fujifilm or Ritek DVDR and you should have absolutely no trouble with your Sony.
