Im using 2x ritek media so dont think its that - also have tried 2 different types of 2x ritek media and getting same errors.

Ive burnt many in the past and had no probs.

I was using prassi and getting this error - after it initialises the disc it gives error most of the time, sometimes it just wont see the disc or it spits it out as bad, other times it will burn for say 2-3% then error!

Ive tried 2 different 104s and get same probs.

dosnt matter if its on the fly or from hdd image!

So far ive uninstalled my old prassi and installed stomp record now (same prob).Changed ide cables, changed ides, changed master, slave etc.

Can it be both these 104s are dying at the same time?

The only other thing i can think of is my pc is to hot (weather being nice at the moment room temperature has gone up) but the case is open and it has 2 fans and a hdd cooler in it .

Also just remembered that sometimes my machine on boot up bleeps 4 times - 1 long bleep then 3 short 1s - its a msi mobo - anybody know what that sequence of bleeps means?

HELP PLEASE! :furious:

Wow seems you tried a lot. Strange that you tried two 104's in same pc and have the same problem. Do you have access to another pc? Still could be cable or something like that. What changed. I had the same problem. After trying all that you listed above and then some. I finally took out the 104 and took it apart cleaned the lense and then it started to work right away.

Maybe you flashed the drives with one of those hacked bios updates? That gave me nothing but problems on my A03 back when......

Check the POST codes at http://bioscentral.com/ to see if there is a problem with your mobo. Most mobos that code mean bad video memory, but you'll need to check based on what bios yours has. Also, are you overclocking?

You didn't mention what bios you have in your MSI. I have an MSI with an AMI bios. Here's what the AMI bios POST codes means for one long and three short beeps.
Video failure. This is caused by one of three possible hardware probs:
1. The video DAC has failed
2. The monitor detection process has failed
3. The video RAM has failed

I seem to remember having this with an old PC and it meant "timer error" indicating the motherboard was faulty.

There was one other possibility and that was a memory fault in the 1st 64k of RAM.

If you have more than one memory card, it might be worth swapping them around or trying to borrow a card to try.

I reckon your drives will work fine in another PC.

Do you know what BIOS you have ?

Ok guys thanks for all your help it was a AMI bios - i have identified the problem to a faulty agp graphics card and that beep beep beep on start up is now gone as ive swapped out the card.

The original problem still remains but seems to be worse - I know the 104s are ok as ive tried them in different pcs. However if i try and burn a dvdr using either stomp recordnow or nero it just will not burn, all it does is say error and spit the disc out 2 seconds after i hit record.

Any more ideas gents?
