upur0 Jun 05, 2003, 10:18 PM Go to evox.xboxhackz.net then the guides section then the guide that is called "How To Add a DVD Drive to Boot CD-R". I understand everything until on the one picture that says "This is what you need to do to set the DVD Drive ontop of your Xbox" (I believe it is the second pic down). So what is it telling me to do to the xbox? do i need to remove the metal shielding or what?
Thanks
maze Jun 06, 2003, 01:35 AM it looks like he cut the back of the tin, if you look close to the picture. about one inch from the left. then you could probley could feed the IDE cable thur the vent of the back of the xbox case. i hope this help you out...
maze Jun 06, 2003, 01:36 AM he also might of cut the top of the case...
dgb1891 Jun 06, 2003, 11:32 AM You can remove the metal sheilding by just pulling on it. Or you can bend the back of the sheild up so that the ide cable will fit through the xbox. You don't need to cut the case or anything. I used to use the same method.
upur0 Jun 06, 2003, 03:16 PM dgb1891, did you bent the metal shield or remove it?
dgb1891 Jun 06, 2003, 08:06 PM I bent it at first but later just completely removed it. If you want to bend it all you have to do is bend the row of prongs thats behind the dvd drive in towards the top of the case.
upur0 Jun 06, 2003, 09:51 PM ok, so the xbox doesn't overheat or anything? and can you screw down the case?
TIME2PLAYDAGAME Jun 07, 2003, 04:52 AM I guess you don't plan on playing origionals at all? I bent the prongs like dgb1891 stated above, and fed the Y splitter and the IDE cable upto the PC drive on top of the Xbox. The case is closed completely, i just didn't screw it back together. Personally, there's times where i'll wanna play a demo or back up a game(rarely) But there are times where you want to have quick access to the origional Xbox drive.
So unless you're completely ruling out the following above, then i would go the same route i went. It's much easier to just slide the lid off and put the IDE cable back into the origional drive.;)
P.S. If you do it right, you won't notice at all that the cover is not screwed together.
upur0 Jun 07, 2003, 10:13 AM I'll probably just screw a couple screws down, if not all. I am getting a premod unit and a crappy laser (it is saving me about $30 and i would use the pc drive anyways), so since the original xbox drive won't read anything, it is just there getting power so i can use the pc drive, so it is pretty useless for me to leave the top open.
dgb1891 Jun 07, 2003, 12:02 PM If I remember correctly I had to have a DVD inside the original the Xbox drive for it to work though. Without a disc in the original drive it kept saying the disc couldn't be read. So if your original drive won't play anything this might not work for you.
TIME2PLAYDAGAME Jun 07, 2003, 05:34 PM Yea i was gonna say the same thing dgb1891. It all depends on your drive. Some people can boot a back up in the PC drive w/out the need of a demo/origional game in the Xbox drive. And then just reboot from EvoX for the game to start. Some need an origional disk in the Xbox drive for the back up to boot.
I myself, don't need an origional to boot. Hopefully you have the same situation Upur0, but if you don't...It's not that big of a deal, it's just a lil easier. And would definately be good in your situation, since you say you have a 'dead' Xbox drive.
freakit Jun 07, 2003, 07:50 PM another option is to just put a big HDD in and ftp the games to the HDD. then play them from there. then you won't need a rom drive to read the games.
upur0 Jun 07, 2003, 08:03 PM Well, I went ahead and invested $25 in a working phillips/thomson (don't know which) drive if i ever want to play an original. thanks for the help guys.
