richbambam Jun 07, 2003, 08:41 AM MameX or MameOX
anyone got any comparisons
Also one little niggle,I'm dying to play Pulstar & Last resort & also Puzzled but I cant get these booted up,I got the neogeo bios file & must be compatable as I get metal slug 2 & blazing star running & other neo roms on mamex too,
when i try to boot up these it says there are missing files, but these roms play ok under mame on my PC,
any one have any ideas & got these games booted up,Just wondering if certain games are not compatable yet ??
Imation-CDR Jun 08, 2003, 07:07 AM I think mamex is the better one.. it runs big games like Metal Slug 2 and so on...
all the games u listed work fine with mamex:
1. boot a small game that is only a few mb's.
2. play some secs and than exit to the menu (select + start)
3. wait about 1 - 2 minutes (mame memory needs to be reorganized)
4. start a game like mslug 2, pulstar or whatever (mamex can handle
games up to 20 mb's) and it works for sure. if u don't wait you'll get the
missing-files message all the time.
hope this helps

OvAZ kLocKz Jun 10, 2003, 03:38 AM mamex is better, god, mameox take forever to load, and its in my harddrive.
djlins Jun 10, 2003, 07:01 AM although it should be said the engine running mamex is older than mameOX
for instance you wont be able to run the classic RAD MOBILE on MameX purely because the emulator engine that supports it is newer than the one used.
Superfro I believe is still plugging away at a new release of it, although I havent heard anything on it for ages so it could be sitting on a shelf now, in which case it might be worth getting onto the development team of MAMEOX and see if we can make that one run better..?

Tried this method m8 & still can only get about 50% of the roms running,
i Really wanna play last resort & Pulstar but i keep getting missing files,I waited about 4 minutes too after playing a small rom game, dont understand it as Last resort isnt a big meg game so the memory to run the rom should be OK,...really confused now :(
djlins Jun 13, 2003, 11:07 AM if your getting missing files then try and get another version of the ROMs.. newer MAME engines arent as forgiving for missing ROMs as older MAME engines (Like previous mames used to substitute in default colour boards if the colours were missing)
Slomar Jun 13, 2003, 11:11 AM Sometimes you'll have the wrong rom set. For instance, if you download that 1500! games and emulator off of Kazaa, the roms will not be the latest version. Thats why you always see the newsgroups flooded with the latest set. Make sure you have the .61 set of roms for Mame, and mamex will run almost all of them.
richbambam Jun 15, 2003, 09:40 AM How would you know if its the .61 set of roms, would downloading the mame.61 for the PC be easier & if roms boot on that then should work with mamex ?
Slomar Jun 16, 2003, 12:30 AM you'll see the roms listed as .61 or whatever when you download them. I got mine from edonkey and the complete set was .60. Then you can get the update from .60 to .61. This will ensure the complete .61 set.
PC mame will pretty much be able to tell you what's compatible, but it can play a few roms that the xbox can't because of the ram limitations of the xbox.
