Does anyone know, or know who would know, if the new PS2's out are substantially different enough from current PS2's so that they're unmoddable with current mod chips? I was considering getting one, but wasn't sure if it was a new line of version numbers, and would require new chips. If that's the case I'll just get an old PS2.

As mentioned no one knows for sure yet on how difficult it will be to mod one of the newest ones. The big + is that the newest versions are specifically designed to read all different types and formats of DVD media (+ and -) so it much more media friendly. It has these capabilities so that people can watch thier homemade movies on the PS2 but once modded it makes it alot easier to read DVD based games.
