View Full Version : How can I reduce my PC Noise?

It never bothered me before but it is annoying. It sounds like a hairdryer just a little bit quieter then a hairdryer. I have 2 system fans blowing in from the front and back, a HDD cooling Fan and the Heatsink/Fan for the CPU But its very annoying. I shouldent have to put up with it wednesday as I'm getting a new MoBo and CPU with a Zalman flower silent fan. But is there any way I can reduce the current noise it makes without buying anything?.

When I remove the 2 system fans the noise is still loud, it is coming from the CPU and I don't know why it is so loud. But without the fans my CPU temperature shoots up to 54Oc with them it runs at 34Oc. It is really annoying evern my m8 said to me "wow your pc is loud".

without buying anything it's difficult but i completely sympathise with you because my computer sounds like it's trying to take off and it's all because of the CPU fan but then again it's cooling an AMD Athlon 1.4GHz (furnace). My next system will be water-cooled so i think i will only have 2 fans in the whole setup running at about 25.0dBA each.

You need to replace the CPU fan with a bigger one using an adaptor. I replaced the 60mm CPU fan with an 80mm one and it's been much quieter, that in turn makes my girlfriend quieter too (no more of her complaints).

LOL It is the same here, that's why I need it quiet because the Mrs complains saying she cant sleep, as I run it 24/7 downloading stuff. I have purchased a Zalman flower with a AMD Athlon XP2400+ The Zalman flower cost me just under £30 but the guys in the store told me that they were guaranteed almost noise free. My friends PC ,I can't here anything at all from his, you cant even tell if it is turned on or not, I said to him how do you make it that quiet and he said He has a fan controller that automatically lowers and higher's the fans speed when the temperature rises and lowers,.

After I install the Zalman flower, (which is huge) I will check out the noise level and maybe buy one of these fan controllers that he mentioned because it does sound a good piece of kit.

try tightening the case.

The vibration of the case also contribute to the noise.

And it looks though as if you're using quite a few fans. You really could do with out the HD and one of the case fans.

Hi there,

Theres no way I can separate the fans as they are on the same power lead. The HDD cooler although not needed, supposed to expand the life of the HDD also removes dust from it. I guess I'll take that out, I am moving all my stuff to a FULL ATX tower with 6 Drive bays has a lot of room inside so the air flow shoul;d be good anyway regardless of the ammount of fans. I dont have a lot in 1 PCI card and my Graphics card which has its own fan but that is quiet. I shall see what happeneds :).

whilst we r on this subject i am experiencing the same problem. But the cpu fan is causing interferance with my tv out on realmagic hollywood plus dvd decoder card. Its driving me nuts, getting a picture on my tv but with diagonal lines like the tv needs fine tuning. Would changeing the fan thus makeing it quieter stop this interferance. anyone hot on dvd decoders????

I have ms8308E matsonic motherboard
with amd athlon k7 xp2000 processor

Hawks has the problem licked probably, buy a Zalman flower as my mate put one in his tower as he uses it to control all his films and music (it's located in his front room), and at first I thought the tower was off it was so quiet. And I am definately gonna buy one.

I was never very impressed with my Flower. I replaced it with a Vantec Aeroflow (http://www.vantecusa.com/afc250.html) in the end. CPU is about 8C cooler and is quieter.
