Crescendoll Jun 15, 2003, 01:15 PM Hey, Ive been having some problems trying to uninstall these 2 pc games. I downloaded them, and with both there was a sort of error while installing and so I cant play, or uninstall them. The Games are Vice City and Unreal II: The Awakening.
Vice City just gives me an error when trying to play OR uninstall, and Unreal II, when I try and play, using the crack it just doesn't wanna work, and when I try and uninstall it, it acts as if the game is being uninstalled, but afterwards nothing had changed.
any ideas??
these are both the official releases (both from fairlight) and i got them from a secure location, so it highly doubt that it's some sort of virus.
MasterMind Jun 15, 2003, 04:27 PM Unreal II, when I try and play, using the crack it just doesn't wanna work, and when I try and uninstall it, it acts as if the game is being uninstalled, but afterwards nothing had changed.
Its because of crack. The original installation makes a LOG file for uninstallation. While uninstalling, the original date & time as well as size stamp is checked. If the main EXE is cracked then some installers won't like it. The solution to this problem : Delete main EXE first. Then install the same game at the same location. Don't apply any crack and try to uninstall it.
Crescendoll Jun 15, 2003, 06:33 PM ill try it, but its not like...a kind of crack which u patch the main .exe with. It just like, another icon called Unreal II.eXe and when you click that icon, that game starts up (that is, it should. but it doesn't work for me)
ryanflucas Jun 15, 2003, 11:01 PM I recently bought Unreal II and installed a patch so I didn't need to leave the cd in the drive all the time. When I tried removing it, I had the same type of problem. I fixed it by deleting the game's folder, running regedit and removing entries in the registry under the Unreal II name, and than used Tweakxp Utility to remove the leftover item in the add/remove programs listing.
Not as automatic as it should be, but it fixed the problem. :-)
Crescendoll Jun 16, 2003, 10:21 AM k, i did that for both games...deleted the folder, deleted registry entries for the 2 games, and got rid of the left over items in the add/remove program thing.
are you sure this is equivalent to a complete uninstall like it should occur, though??
MasterMind Jun 16, 2003, 01:43 PM No. Obviously not if some DLL files are copied to Windows System folder. Or even some INI entries.
