Quite simply the difference between the 105 and the 106 is that the 106 supports + format writing and the 105 does not. 105=4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW
and the 106=4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW and 4x DVD+R/2.4x DVD+RW. If you want the ability to write + format discs then spend the Xtra $ and get the 106 if you are content with the - format then I wouldn't bother with the 106. The 105 does also have the 2x4all firmware hack which means that you can write just about any 1x DVD-R disc at 2x. I personally would stick with the 105 for cost and firmware options but if you really would like to have both - and + formats then you will have to get the 106.
