Frodos Friend Jun 23, 2003, 09:22 AM I know this is probably a how long is a piece of string question - but would like peoples opinions.
What is the best firmware for use on the Pioneer A105??
honest_geezer Jun 23, 2003, 05:54 PM Probably the latest 1.33 hacked version m8...
Not had any problems with it.
420 Jun 24, 2003, 04:03 AM I'm using v1.0 with OptoDisc DVD-R ... works 100%. I say the best is whatever works for you - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

Lazza Jun 24, 2003, 09:34 AM But also remember..........
That if you stick with the official Pioneer firmwares then you will not have the advantage of being able to burn 1X media at 2X. ;) In fact a lot of certified 2X discs won't even burn at that speed using this firmware. So if this is of any importance to you then upgrade to the hacked 133 firmware which runs like a dream.
I have not had one single coaster when burning 1X discs at 2X even when using cheapo media like those old Bulkpaq 1X discs.
PhilEnfield Jun 24, 2003, 12:32 PM @ Lazza
How does 1.33 cope with 4 X burning, as I am thinking of upgrading my 104 soon.
Lazza Jun 24, 2003, 12:41 PM Fine, every bit as good as the hacked 1.30 firmware.
I've not found that the hacked firmwares compromise the ability of the offial ones in any way whatsoever so far.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I haven't upgraded to the 1.33 hacked firmware though. I am running off of the 1.30 hacked (final) is it worth the upgrade?
Lazza Jun 24, 2003, 03:40 PM To be honest I've not noticed any difference between the two m8 as I don't use my drive to rip.
But it has to be better because it is a higher number and newer than the 1.30.
PhilEnfield Jun 28, 2003, 07:51 AM Ok ... I just upgraded my brother's 105 to 133 Hacked version.
It seems stable enough, but so far he hasn't managed 4X burns "on-the-fly".
Should this be possible ? ....... (I cant help him as I still use my trusted old 104) ;)
I know "on-the-fly" has risks, but he's had no trouble at 2X
dj alex Jun 28, 2003, 12:31 PM i burn with both my 105 's on the fly no probs still useing the 1.2 firmware they came with
PhilEnfield Jun 28, 2003, 01:00 PM He manages "on-the-fly" copies at 2 X ok, but not at 4 X.
There shouldn't be a problem, as he's using 4 X Riteks.
Nero shows it is burning at 4 X, but it's taking 30 mins ??
Are you managing 4 X ok ?
handyguy Jun 28, 2003, 06:02 PM The faster you go the faster your computer has to be to keep up.
REDBULL Jun 29, 2003, 07:12 PM thats right , some progs do speed checks first and if it thinks ure system is to slow it reduces it to 2x even though u selected 4x , i myself dont hav any probs but i still turn off the speed check thingy
PhilEnfield Jun 30, 2003, 11:36 AM Thanks guys .... I think the problem may be down to him having both drives on the same IDE channel, i.e.
Secondary Master = DVD-ROM Drive
Secondary Slave = 105
He's using an Athlon 1800+ with 256mb ram, so system should be good enough.
dean0 Jul 08, 2003, 04:22 PM Have to agree. Data transfer seems to be more efficient between channels than along them.
