The latest firmware of the sdr-5002 has just been updated to 1033. If your not using firmware 1033 it would be a good time to download the latest firmware from toshiba.com

Update utility for Win 98, Win ME, Win 2000 and Win XP to upgrade the firmware of an SD-R5002 DVD-R/RW drive from version 1030,1031 or 1032 to version 1033.

Toshiba has detected a potential write error on this drive. The frequency of occurrence is very low and it can be fixed by updating the drive's firmware.

I've just upgraded and now none of my datawrite classic gray tops work lol

Sorted, was a media problem, even though he gray classics look the same, they are now Princo's which the Toshiba won't even entertain


For all you peeps with the above writer, DO NOT buy Datawrite Classics that have the serial code on the BOTTOM, they need to have the code on the TOP of the disk for them to work. Regardless of firmware.

maybe i have the wrong idea here, but are you saying the sdr5002 wont burn princos. Cuz I burn them all the time with this drive, and have bever had a problem..

no, just not the datawrite gray topped princo's as you've said

Although the tosh burns the unbranded x4 ritek at x2 so i'm happy
