and i don't really care about that 2x hack either, so dont say the 105 because of that.
I mean something thats got a high buffer, high compatability, +/-, etc
I'd imagine it would be a SONY - I dunno tho.

I have the sony, its been good to me, so thats all I can recommend, but its all that matter of opinion. Maybe wait til 106 comes out. I think it comes out this month.

Man that thing better do DVD9s at that price!!!! If you are going dual format I would either get the Sony Dru510a or the Upcomming Pioneer 106/A06 drive. I think the sony will do DVD+RW at 4x while the Pioneer will only do it at 2.4x. BTW I don't know if this is universal but I saw the Sony at my local Circuit City for $300 (not the usual $350 and yes it is the full retail version).

Not bad at all. I would certainly trust one of those over the OEM Sony. The Retail sony is really good but I think that making the firmware for the OEM version different was a VERY poor decision.
