I ahve heard stories about compatability issues with different media.
I'm thinking about getting one but don't know if I should.

Any feedback would be appreciated:confused:

and this has what to do with VGB?

Try looking in the DVD forum.. Most people are now happy with their A05/105's.

Anyway, I'm moving this to CoOp.

when they first came out there was very few 4x media out, and the stuff that was out was shite, so people kept on getting bad burns, and blaming it on the drive

but now most people (that use good media) have very few problems

so if you want a 4x -r dvd burner its not only the vogue thing to buy, but a good choice then buy it :D

Yes that is true. We do see at least one post a week asking about wether or not the Pioneer 105/A05 is a good burner. The answer=DEFINITELY. I honestly can't think of a better burner to buy for the price. Like a number of others here I own one and absolutely love it. Having the hacked firmware option is also a big + (burns 1x DVD-R discs at 2x, so you save both time and money).

A05 = retail box, manual, cable

105 = No box, cable, manual

it ranges from £100 to £120 now(105) and £140 (A05), but if you want one buy it now as they have stopped macking them

106 = more formats

All depends on how badly you want to be able to burn + format discs and if you want to have a 2x4all firmware hack option (burn just about any 1x DVD-R at 2x). The 105/A05 has the 2x4all firmware upgrade which has proved invaluable (to me as well as a number of others). At this point I would say wait on the 106 because they seem to be having compatibility issues with some of the current software (this should be fixed before too long). If you can't wait then go with the 105 but if you can wait a little bit then I would go for the 106 (unless you want to have the option of burning 1x discs at 2x). I personally own the 105 and am quite content with only having the "-" format.

Yes you can save money. Instead of investing extra $ in 2x discs you can buy 1x discs and still burn them at 2x with this firmware. Keep in mind to burn a full DVD-R at 1x it takes about an hour at 2x it takes about 30 minutes so there is a BIG difference in the amount of time saved burning DVDs.

Sorry to jump on the post but i'm seriously thinking of getting the 105, got a decent offer for one privately, but was wondering whether i can throw out my current cd/dvd rom drive (think i'll keep my cdrw drive on account of the fact that it will burn cds way faster than the 105)

Basically in the unlikely event that i get a dvd that is in the dvd+r format will it read it? Also I assume it'd read pressed dvd's right?

Yes the drive will READ a DVD+R disc just not WRITE to a DVD+R disc.
