Not sure if this should be posted in here or DVD. I've just bought a Pioneer 105 dvd-r writer hoping that it would also replace my old 12x cd writer.

Only problem is it refuses to copy cd's. It reads them ok but the write fails about half way through every time. At first I thought the drive was faulty but it burns compilations from files on my pc including audio cd's created from mp3's without any problems.

I've tried several different programs including nero, recordnow max and clone cd - all the latest versions, but I get the same problem every time. Could it be a buffer under run or is the 105 BURN-Proof when writing to cdr's? I've also checked DMA is enabled. Can anyone help me out with this problem, I'm running windows xp if this helps.

What's the setup like on the IDE controllers?
If the other optical drive share the same IDE controller as the Pioneer then you will have to lower the recording speed as only one of those devices can access the channel on the IDE controller at a time.
Otherwise move the other optical drive to another IDE controller.

Thanks for the reply, the pioneer is on primary master as my HD is on my seperate RAID controller. I'm using the pioneer as the reader aswell as the writer it just wont write back to the disc after the read, any other idea's?

What CD is it?
Are they pressed (bought) or burned?
Could the CD be copy protected?

Thanks for all the help guys. Think I've cracked it, it appears it works ok if I just leave the cd to burn but fails if I'm doing other things like surfin the net. I'm guessin it must be down to buffer under run. Does the 105 not have buffer under run protection
