I’d like to buy a DVD player with DivX play back – I know there are a few of them about (LiteON PhoMaster LVD-2001, Kiss DP-500 etc.) but I know very little about these, does anyone know if you can buy them in the UK?and if so could you please post a link.
I’ve been to DVDRHELP.COM and read some readers reviews, but I can’t find availibilty / cost (UK).
Anyone bought one?
Cheers

I would actually recommend an xbox (you'd have to get it it chipped but the xbox media player will literally play anything: divx, xvid, mpeg, quicktime files, real media files, mpegs)- or even a ps2 as apparently mad catz are releasing a media player than can play divx files as well (not sure about other file types).
The advantage of the xbox with xbox mediaplayer, is that you can also play streaming media- e.g. by networking your xbox to a pc you can stream the media from your pc's hard drive.
i think you will find an xbox, modified and a dvd remote is still cheaper than a kiss divx player, and you have the advantage of future proofing (software upgrade of the xbox media player). Plus it is multiregion as well
and oh yeah you can play games as well :D
p.s. if you do insist on buying a standalone divx player, scan.com do the kiss one http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=46005

Thanks nimbles
I didn’t think of an Xbox – I didn’t think the DVD play back via an Xbox was very good? (just bought a new TV and would like a DVD player with progressive scan).
I’ll look into it.

Well i have a 32" philips and the dvd playback from the xbox is on a similar level to my 2 year old panasonic dvd player which was around £250 at the time. I would hope and expect that £400-500 dvd player would be better!!
Divx quality is obviously going to be lower than dvd and will depend on the resolution and encoding- but that is independent of what it would be played through- a kiss divx player would have similar problems.
Not sure about progressive scan on the xbox maybe someone on the xbox forum may be able to help, but i do know the dvd playback on an xbox is a little better than on a ps2.
Also with the advanced scart you can get 5.1 if you have suitable 5.1 decoder with optical input point.
Hope it helps
