Thankss
BlackWar Jun 29, 2003, 04:31 AM ??? Why would you want to change it? I would LUV to have a constant IP address.
But, to answer your question, open up a msdos box, and then type:
ipconfig /release
then when it releases it, type:
ipconfig /renew
Also, if you dont like msdos that much, you can take this approach... in the run box type:
winipcfg
That will open a gui interface for you to use, and you will be able to do the same thing.
Cheers!

That will only change an ip address on a networked computer, not the ip address the outside world see's. To change a static ip address assigned by your isp, you'll need to contact them to have it changed.
beardedwonder Jun 29, 2003, 07:54 AM Mine stays the same a lot of the time but it isn't a static IP address. A lot of the time the address wont change if i use ipconfig. The best way is to find out how long the lease is on your ip address and renew it when the lease is up.
Richskie Jun 29, 2003, 06:04 PM Your lease should never actually expire. It should get renewed when it is half way through it's lease time.
B.T.W. Many DHCP servers (allocates IP addresses) when asked for an ip address will always allocate hardware (NIC, modem etc.) the same IP it had the last time it was in use. Assuming no one else is currently using that IP of course.
The best way to try is to turn off you modem / router, wait for a few mins & then turn it back on again.
kyle5077 Jun 29, 2003, 10:59 PM Yup as Richskie said. Turn off/unplug ur modem for a few and if it dosent change when its turned on then it never will (unless ur ISP does it 4 u)

Darkman Jun 30, 2003, 01:35 AM As it's the ISP that controlls your IP address Winipcfg release & renew will only work if your ISP is actively assigning IP addresses. Most cable or other 'always-on' ISP have a low turnover in IP connections. So when you release your IP and request another you'll most likely get the same one back as it won't be reassigned to someone else. Releasing your IP and then turning your modem off for a day or so & then using winipcfg again to renew your connection may work.
backup2k1 Jul 03, 2003, 01:32 AM hi m8 same provider as you ;)
sometime have problems with the internet being a little bit slow
but renew your ipconfig then click on renew all
all so do a power down on the modem for 20 seconds
and your be back up surfing fast
it happens a lot you just renew your ip number again
you can not change the ip of your pc that is there for life

pepsik Jul 03, 2003, 01:50 PM I used to have an ip masker back in the day (1997) when the ip's where easier to find, I would copy and paste the adresses I wanted to mask my system with, I lost that tool when my system crashed and since that time ip addresses are very rare to find around. I think your question was answered, but if you wanna mask your ip I think the latest changes in isp's doesn't allow them to work anymore.

Yes, you can.
Willy2eagles Jul 03, 2003, 06:20 PM You have 2 options.
1.) unplug your computer for more than 2 days so that your ip address is automatically assigned to someone else. ( 2days is generally how long ip addresses are issued for)
2.) change your network interface card. (nic)
Willy2eagles Jul 03, 2003, 06:21 PM Qwerty, I think your thinking of your MAC address.
It is hard coded to your nic.
konni3x Jul 04, 2003, 05:54 AM i have comcast and the ip stays for a week or so, then it renew. i also cannot manually change the ip, however, i can do so by switching network cardz. i got a pci and a usb nic.
El Bandito Jul 05, 2003, 10:43 AM Willy2eagles seems to be right on this your IP prob isn't static but dynamic if you unplug your modem for a prolonged time you ip address will be given to someone else there is usually a set number of ip addresses assigned to ppl in your area
