xPowersx Jun 29, 2003, 12:09 PM How do I put a password on Microsoft Outlook so that when i open it up, it asks for one. any help would be much appreciated, cheers :) Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 12:33 PM Easiest method - Go to "Outlook Today" in your outlook shortcuts, right click, select properties. Go to "advanced" - change password - leave the "old password" field blank and fill in your new password and verify it. Next time you run outlook you will be prompted for a password. There are numerous other ways to do this, post back if you get into trouble. xPowersx Jun 29, 2003, 12:56 PM EDIT: found it, but it does not prompt me for a password when i start it up again ?? cheers Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 01:15 PM You mean to say that I wasted five minutes of my time looking for the solution for you only to find that you aren't using the program you said you were using??? There is a subtle difference between Outlook and Outlook Express - not unlike the difference between pre-school and post-grad. I suggest you invest some time (as I did) with our friend google (www.google.com) and find out for yourself. AND POST THE RIGHT INFO NEXT TIME!!! xPowersx Jun 29, 2003, 01:28 PM EDIT: i also searched google before but obviously am not a good searcher as i did not find anything :s I am using microsft Outlook.. not express.. i found what you said, many thanks, but cant get it to prompt for a password upon start-up very sorry for wasting your time :( james Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 01:34 PM Originally posted by xPowersx EDIT: i also searched google before but obviously am not a good searcher as i did not find anything :s I am using microsft Outlook.. not express.. i found what you said, many thanks, but cant get it to prompt for a password upon start-up very sorry for wasting your time :( james WTF??? Have quoted you this time in case you go ahead and delete it all again. Why, then, in your last post (before you edited it all away while i was replying) did you say you were "using Outlook Express 2003 beta version" if you now say you are using outlook? If its outlook you can do this via the right click options on the desktop. Make sure you are password protecting your default profile. This works on Outlook 2002 which is sitting in front of me, anything else i can't vouch for (and now can't be bothered to look for!) xPowersx Jun 29, 2003, 01:48 PM i meant using microsoft outlook 2003 must of been thinking of my old version - sorry Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 01:54 PM Sigh. No probs. In future when you are editting a post its fairly sociable to leave what you had written originally and add an "Edit" to the bottom. It helps with the flow of the thread ... I don't know about 2003 but I'd be surprised if they have changed this feature (it existed in 2000 and 2002) - right click on desktop icon, properties, show profiles (at this point check that it is using the right profile) - click properties, data files, settings .... change password. Even if they have changed the format this should give you the gist, and it should work ... and if it doesn't at least you will know what to look up in the help file! Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 01:58 PM AND - you said above that you had found it through the "outlook today" method but that it didn't prompt you for a password next time you opened up. IF you ticked the box that says something like "add this to my password list" then it doesn't prompt (obviously, as it knows the password from the list ...) - change your password and make sure that this box is unchecked, this will work for you. Zombie Breath Jun 29, 2003, 02:13 PM all you have to do is uncheck 'remember password'. Can be found somewhere in your email properties settings. Virgin San Jun 29, 2003, 02:14 PM Zombie, this only prevents new mail from being received, it doesn't prevent access to anything else you have on Outlook. xPowersx Jun 29, 2003, 03:03 PM I have done this :S changed password and unticked the box, but no luck :( looks like it doesnt work thanks anyways :) EDIT: Fixed |
