Sorry to say this dood but you have got one long night ahead of you! I got this a while back and wasn't pleased, fortunatly I had a second computer and could get onto the Microsoft Knowledge Base (Yes, it can be useful sometimes!).

What I suggest you do is head over there, and input the EXACT error message (Was a while ago so I can't remember exactly what it was). You should find an article matching the message and it will tell you exactly what to do. It is a long winded process involving using your XP CD, the recovery console, system restore and a whole lot of praying!

Good luck to ya m8!

(It's not a difficult thing to fix with the article on the Knowledge Base, just a time consuming one)

Or it could be something as simple as that you have a floppy disk inside the floppy drive.

If not, then as memphis said, a long night ahead of you.

Or if you cannot be bothered with the long night at the moment, create a bootable floppy disk for your NTFS partition

If it's just NTLDR that is missing it's simple to replace.

Method 1 (only works if c: drive is FAT)

On another pc copy ntldr from the i386 folder on the XP install CD to a bootable floppy.
Boot you bad pc from the floppy & copy ntldr to c:\
Remove floppy & reboot.

Method 2 (works if c: drive is FAT or NTFS)

Boot from the XP install CD. Select the option for 'recovery console' (you will need administrator pwd). Type FIXBOOT at the prompt.
Remove CD & reboot.

Well, in my case it wasn't so simple, the registry had become corrupt and needed replacing with a previous version from a system restore.

Well, yes he might still need to do that. He might even have to reformat the disk but one problem at a time.
