Hi - I need a replacement P3 1 Ghz processor for a laptop - I can find quite a few but thay all seem to have a different stepping codes. Is this important in replacing the processor?

I would first check you can actually replace it, as they tend to be soldered to the PCB, and you don't want to be de-soldering and then re-soldering a processor!

Already got the processor out - it's a socket 370 type - Im just wondering if any processor with the right bus speed, cache and voltage would do?

Ah, in that case your best bet is getting some technical information from the manufacturer. You tend to find plenty on their website.
