hi, i need help trying to record movies from my lap top to my vcr. My lappy is svideo and ive tried connecting it to my vcr through the scart socket.... but it comes out in black and white..... do i need a vcr that is svideo compatble? is there a way of getting it to work without buying another vcr?
or is there a box of tricks avalible on the net that will sort it?
many thanks

I assume your running some kind of adapter built to convert this. I'd say there is a problem with your settings and not your VCR, unless the thing is VERY old. Whats the system specs and vid card chip?

i am not using a converter..... to explain a little more - the laptop has a s-video socket built into it - i have a s-video lead that connects from the laptop to the tv (perfect for watching movies) but when pluging the lead into my video recorder instead the picture comes out in black and white - i believe this is because the video recorder is not s-video compatable - which is why it is black and white. the lap top is high spec - so that is not the problem.
i guess i want to know if there is a way to convert the s-video picture into a format that will allow the video recorder to display it in colour.
converters are really expensive - does anyone know of a video recorder that is s-video compatable?
thanks
i hope this gives more info as its quite hard to explain :)

s-vhs keeps the chrominance and the luminance signals separate to avoid loss of quality through repeated merging and splitting of signals, so your cable is connected only to the luminance (b/w) signal, and is of the wrong sort (probly for a posh gfx card with svhs-out) You could get one of those little video mixing gubbins from Argos or a camera shop as they convert s-vcd to composite and vice versa and you can then set the brightness/contrast to record at as well. Those adapters and converter cables seem to make the picture all stripey...
