I am on the verge of purchasing a new PS2 after i sell my other one. Most likely i will get a V7, right? So will this be able to play DVD backups by using my Gameshark2? (it will be a while before i get my modchip) Thanks in advance for your help.

i think you need a chip but i could be wrong...

You still need a mod chip, a gameshark only assists the booting of games whilst using Neo 2.2(basic solder mod) or a no-solder mod. A gameshark alonecan't boot any game that is not an original.
