I got my ps2 (with a mod) as a gift about 1-2 years ago, since then I played only cdr's on it. couple dayes ago I got a dvd burner, burned some dvd-r's and a dvd+r, but coulden't boot them in any way. I never got the booting instructions for dvdr's, and I have no Idia what mod chip Ive got.
I have ps2 V5 pal and I use the swap method with dvd region x, is there way to find out what mod I have?
and what are the most common methods to boot dvdr's with dvd region x?

You probably have a Neo 2/2.2 or a no-solder mod. I not too sure if you can play dvdr with a v5 and Neo2.2 as the reset trick doesn't work, i don't know about dvdr with a no solder mod

You can't play dvdr on a V5 PS2 using Neo 2.2. However, if you have a no-solder chip then you should be able to boot dvdr. What's your current booting method (for cdr)? That could help us decide what chip you are using to boot.

I use the swap method with dvd region x for cdr's
just found guide in the forum that worked for me:

use regionx.
load the dvd region x wait for region selection screen 1-6.
swop for a backup of ar2v2 then press start when the detect hardware cames up.
when it loads to the main screen press eject and insert dmc (or ps2 game with big toc) press eject again to retract tray.
then press start on main ar2 screen (scrolls hardware not found at bottom)
go to with codes screen
press o then it will come up with a menu
go to choose options and press x
in options choose reset hardware and press x
after reseting hardware it will take you to the menu screen again
notice that 128 games and 2564 codes will show on screen
choose action replay codes and go down to dave mirra bmx 2
press start and you will be taken back to the screen with/without codes. choose with codes.(make sure you choose with codes press x)

after that a message will display (too many codes) and the disk (original (dmc)) will stop spinning

swap original with copy (i tried mgs2) and choose without codes then press x.

and what do you know its all go.

if that worked for me (with dvd-r, dvd+r) then what mod chip do I have?

WOW! That's a whole lot of work to play ONE game. I'm going to have to stay away from No-Solder mod chips when my PS2 finally arrives in the mail... Sorry I can't help with your question, hopefully someone here will know.

It certainly sounds like a no-solder chip; I don't think it could be anything else. However, that boot method also sounds like you are doing alot more work than needed. May try to check some other boot methods for dvdr using the no solder chip....

If you can boot cdr over 630 mb...then you might have an ace key (1 wire solder) which allows this on PAL machines.....
