I'm wondering...

Is it a good time to buy a dvd burner?

Nowdays the prices are pretty good(A05 199.00 cdn = ~150usd). it's what makes me want to get one, but the problem is the dvd's size.
There isn't a standard size for dvds yet. Also the 9.4g burners are slowly coming out. This is the issue that keeps stopping me from buying one.

Should i get one now? if yes, which one?

or should i wait until they standardized the dvd format?

Thanks in advance.

Now is a good a time as any, single format writers are very good prices now and neither is likely to go away.

You may however want to hedge your bets and get a dual format writer like the Sony or the NEC one.

9.4g burners? Do you mean able to write double sided discs like the Pioneer or burners which can write dual layer?

DVD9 burners? The only ones I can think of are the professional ones that the commercial companies use to actually make them. In either case good luck finding one for under about $4,000. As mentioned above niether format is going to die anytime in the near future as more and more burners are going dual format. I'm personally content with my Cendyne/Pioneer 105 (same model as the A05 but with less software). Buying now would be a good thing. If you wait too long then you will be able to pick up a DVD Burner for under $100 but by that time DVD's replacement will be just around the corner and it will be a wasted investment. Buy now.
