I just bought a 52x24x52x burner today. From my past experiences, burning too fast may make the cd unreadable. Well, mine goes from 8x all the way to 52x. I have 52x compatible cdrs and I'm trying to burn mp3, movies, audio, and music videos. Will the higher speed make the audio skip or the video to screw up? Is it safe to burn at 24x? thanks.

The burner is designed to burn at max speed, provided you have media rated at that burn speed you should have no problems. The 'reduce speed for better burns' debate has raged for years with no clear outcome. The best advice is to try a couple of high speed burns and see what happens.

You have to conduct your own tests with your preferred media.
Darkman hit it right on the nose, but there are those who feel that you get more errors burning at low speeds with high speed media and burners. It has been rumored that 12X to 40X delivers the best burns (fewest errors) with todays high speed burner and media.

In my experience, burning speed does not really effect quality. I have tried everything from 2x speed up to 48x speed. As long as your pc can keep up with the speed your burner demands, everything goes. (that is, your pc has to be capable of transferring the demanded ammount of data. Especially older pc's might fail here.)
Media quality however prooved to be more important. Especially the speed the media was designed for is important.
You might try some different brands of media. Both dye color and reflecting layer (silver/gold) can make a difference for no perticular reason.
For example, my drive will perform poorly with gold/green. Silver/blue however is a winning combination...
Just try some options, and stick with the one that has best results.
