Hi all,
I was following the dvd2dvdr guide for ripping a dvd9 (about 7G) to fit on a dvdr using dvd2one software.
After running smartripper, the movie contents were only 4.2G! Sweet, I guess I can do a straight rip to dvdr instead of running the dvd2one software.

What a nice surprise.

The movie in question is Jackass

My guess is that the movie would fit on a single disc without needing any compression. Any actual DVD9 needs to be compressed, ripped, ect. before it will fit on a DVDR.

jesterace777,
thats what I thought too. After using smartripper, I created the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders and dumped all files inside (VIDEO_TS).

When I burned the dvd it would not run.

These are the files that were inside the video folder (4.23G):

vts_03_0.ifo
vts_03_1.vob
vts_03_2.vob
vts_03_3.vob
vts_03_4.vob
vts_03_5.vob

Structure:

D:\AUDIO_TS\the 6 files above
\VIDEO_TS

Im probably missing something basic but my brain is working right now :zombie:

Now i've got a $2 platter

Any ideas?

Nothing new here, this is why we have a movie only section on the DVD size list.

You do not have the full DVD structure there, that is why it wouldn't run.

As Celtic says, you haven't got all the files you need for it to play on your standalone.

The simplest way to put it right, is to run the files through Dvd2one. This will create the missing files (VIDEO_TS.IFO & VIDEO_TS.BUP).
When finished, place the files into the folder called VIDEO_TS & create an empty AUDIO_TS folder (both must be in caps).

Disk structure :

Audio_TS folder - Empty
VIDEO_TS folder - contains all your files

DVd2one will not compress it unless it needs to.

If you've still got the original DVD I'd suggest re-doing the entire thing just to be on the safe side. Use DVD Decryptor, choose all files, remove macrovision and the rip to your HD. When you've got all the files on the HD, do as PhilEnfield suggests, create two folders, audio and video, place the movie files ( including BUP and IFO ) in the video folder, leave audio blank and burn. If you're going to use Nero to burn, make sure you've got the right settings. Good luck.

Philenfield,Tom,Celtic_druid,
I feel really dumb wasting a dvd and missing so many steps.
Thanks for the great info, I am going to try all your suggestions.

sometimes the movie and the menu will fit on to a dvdr its just the extras that make it too big, so all you have to do is delete the extras that way you can keep the full quality of the movie

scottish nutter,
i thought I did, but i couldnt track down which other files were missing.

Will try the dvd2one method tonight. i know the extras are the ones making this 7G, and from what philenfield says, dvd2one will create the necessary ifo/bup files without compressing if possible. (-8

Arghhhh!
I ran all files under smartripper then to dvd2one. This error message kept appearing:

Unable to open vobfileset

I scrapped that and ran dvdcryptor instead then put the results through dvd2one.

Success. (-8
