Moving this to CDRW.

Are you encountering any read errors? Also what settings are you using to read?

If you were talking about (S)VCD's, then some drives read mode2 form2 data slower than regular mode1.

Oh yeah, might also help if we knew what reader and writer that you were using.

8 to 10 min is not a long time and the length of time the burn will take is dependant on the type of protection that is on the disk you are copying.

do you copy disk to disk or to the hard drive then to disk?

Yes, that's nice, but what is on the disc? What drives are you using (source and writer), also what are the specs of your PC? Were there any read errors? What speed are you trying to burn at?

Most likely though for whatever reason, your source drive is not providing the data fast enough for your burner.

Might also want to try reading the CD to an image then burning the image file.

Why on earht would you have a Cd rom and a DVD? the DVD can read better than any CD rom and it is not a good idea to have any CD or DVD roms paired with your hard drive.

more than likely your slow burning is because of your set up. try this

Hard drive primary master / no slave
DVD secondary master with your burner as secondary slave.

With the exception of a few DVDROM's such as the Lite-On LTD163/165/166, which have excellent DAE capability, most DVDROM can't do as good DAE as their cheaper CDROM counterparts. Except when a DVD/CD drive is connected on the same channel with a faster HDD, having both DVDROM and CDROM on the same system will not hurt the burning speed. In your case, cableguy, you will need to buy a USB 2.0 external enclosure for your DVD to avoid having the DVD drive on the same channel with the HDD.
