i an converting a svcd to dvd. i have split the files so i have a movie file and a sound file. i converted the sound file to 48000khz so thats fine. the movie was at 480 x 567 (something on the 500's anyway). i upped the resolution to 740 x 480. i left the bitrate at 1150. i also upped the fps from 25 to 29.97. I use tempgenc to do all this. the problem that i currently have is that the video comes out in a unwatchable state when played on my ps2. it cant be the resolution as i play normal dvds and they are the same in res. also the actual movie file size gets smaller some how. i can play fine on a xbox and PC but not on my ps2, and before any one says just play on the others its for a friend who only has a ps2 so thats not an option. OH almost forgot, i changed the aspect ratio from 1:1 VGA to 4:3 tv. Any feedback would be appreciated

The source res would be 480x576 and the output should be 720x480. The reason the file size gets smaller is because SVCD's don't use a bitrate of 1150, that is VCD.

The reason it is unwatchable is probably because a) you used a bitrate of 1150 for a DVD, which doesn't even look good with 3-4 passes with CCE, let alone CBR? with TMPGEnc and b) because you changed the framerate from 25 to 29.976, which leads to poor motion.

so if i leave the frame at 25 will a dvd player still be able to view it and if so what should the bit rate be?

thanx

Depends on your player/TV.
Also depends, if it is the only thing going onto the disc, then crank the bitrate as high as you can.

yo dude my highest bit rate is 100000, should i set it to this? leave it at 25fps? i sometimes put a front end on where you select the movie no chapters or anything. should i set to the same thing again 100000? i am assuming that after setting to this the res at 720 x 480 should be fine.

please get back to me

720x480 is an NTSC res, if you are encoding at a PAL framerate then you need to use a PAL resolution.

When I said crank the bitrate, I meant to as high with the file taking up ~100% of the disc, not as high as the program goes. Although as I said it depends what else is going on the disc, if you are including a menu, then obviously you need to leave room for that to.
