I was chating with a buddy the other day and he said he overheard a guy claim there is a burnable two sided CDR? IS this true? Or could it be a joke?

If so and they do exist? Are there any sites to buy them from?

Anyone?

Thanks

Spankey

Double Sided refers to the discs being coloured on both sides,
not to them being recordable on both sides.

Take a look at:

That would have been pretty big news in the market and we'd all be aware of it. If there is such a creature I have yet to see it anywhere.

I don't see why they couldn't. I rented many DVD's that are double sided with a full screen version on one side and the letterbox version on the other. They probably wouldn't be too popular since you couldn't label them though.

Here's a site that sells double sided re-writables

About 18 months ago, I said then it would be feasable to produce double sided CD or DVD disc's, however to make them useable as intended ie full use without having to flip the disc, would need a whole new set of hardware rules, the DVD's having now got in excess of 9 Gigs, and available to the above average user, the hardware developement isnt worth the commercial cost, so for now to the average user, it will remain a gimmic..

Apparently double sided CDRs do exist. The burner in the link below comes with one.

That could still mean exactly what I've come up with looking for "double-sided" CD-R's. The color is double-sided, meaning the polycarbonate base disc is red, green, blue, whatever... colored all the way through so that you see the color on either side of the CD-R.

Says double capacity though. Personally I have never seen a double sided CDR though.

I've never seen one either and I'd just as soon use two CDRs. If the CDR becomes physically damaged 1.3gigs is a lot of data to lose on one CD.

Neither can manufacturers of original flippers, it would be a boon to multiple disc games, you simply write a code on the center of the disc to match the title code on the sleeve/case, it would be no different to writing the title on the disc,

I have used 2 sided dvd media. It is a nightmare to figure out how to label them.Ijust use a "dot" system in the center hub,and a printed menu of titles.I do however, have a flipper changer. It holds 300 discs,so once they are loaded, the trouble is over.A 2 sided cdr would make no sense at all!If you want 1.4 gig on 1 cdr, wait til HD burners(and readers) are more widely used.I do have a HD burner, but the discs can only be read by it.It is the New Sanyo inovation.

I dont know what all the fuss is about. I have boxes of double sided cdrs. I put my coffee on them, and when it gets dirty, I just turn them over.

I'm sure i read about double sided 1.4GB CDRW media somewhere a few weeks ago... just cannot retrieve the website now..

Double sided DVD is actually there, 9.4GB on one disk, not bad... :D
