I have a Yamaha CD R/RW model 2100 E (16 10 40 ) unit.
CPU = AMD 900
Memory = 384 megs SDRAM
Win 2000 pro O/S
Software = Roxio Easy CD creator v.6
Video card = n-VIDIA 3 D force 2 MX 64.
CD installed on its own IDE bus (not shared)
CD is recognized by windows and working properly in device manager.
I have re-installed drivers.
I have re-installed sotware.
I have cleaned my lenses.
I upgraded the CD bios.
My problem is as follows:
If I try to burn a CD, I get an "out of memory message" or else my CD drive unplugs and is uninstalled by windows.
I I try to read a music CD, it takes a long, long time for my drive to read and play the CD. While its loading, it freezes my system. Once it finishes playing a song, it takes forever to load the next song.
If I try to read a data CD, either it doesn't read or recognize the CD or it takes a long time to recognize and load or else it freezes my system and I need to 'ctrl alt del' in order to free up my system.
It seems to use up alot of CPU resources when loading or reading something i.e. (36%)
My question is has this CD burner lived out its useful life or is there something that I'm missing.
