Hi guys, I'm pretty stuck right now and would appreciate some help.

I've installed font exploits on my hdd to see if it works and now I'd like
to switch my hdd for a bigger one. So I extracted the hd password
from my old drive and tried to lock the new one (samsung 120gb)
with the same pass in my pc, but silly xbox doesn't accept the drive.
The drive seems looked though. I just have no clue what could be my mistake. Any ideas ???

Download Config Magic mate and write it to a cd so it can boot from it. Put the new Hdd in your xbox and boot Config magic from the CD. Then lock it from there. I think the only way to do this without a modchip though is if a mate or someone has a modchip, you would have to do it in their's.

Nope... I've run into this issue as well. Locking the hard drive is tricky. I just tried to do this on my friends and got all sorts of stuck. I did find out a couple things though.

1. Locking the HDD with the original hdd password isn't good enough, you'll still get error 6. (wrong hdd key)

2. Locking the HDD in your modded xbox with config magic, then switching it to the new xbox will give you error 6 too. (the key will be for the modded xbox, not the new xbox)

3. If you install your modchip in the new box and run config magic from there to lock it you'll be golden. Then you can take your modchip back.

4. There is another option as well. Check out the forums at Xbox-scene under the exploits section. There's a fairly long thread about using your computer to lock your xbox with a program called unlockx and some sort of linux boot disk. I haven't tried this but it's supposed to use the hdd key, not just the password, to lock the hdd.

5. Another note, if you are using complex, because you don't have a v1.0 xbox and you need the new kernels bios, bert & ernie reloaded still doesn't get past the clock issue. So make sure you un apply the hack from the original hdd before you leave the power off for too long. You won't be able to boot back up without a chip.

Thanks for your replies, indeed I tried to lock the hd in a modded box but you're right it still won't boot in an unmodded xbox. So I locked the hd with unlockx and checked with atapwd. Locking seems successful but still it won't load in the box. I guess there's still something you can't do w/o a mod. Maybe somebody will find a solution. I'll post here if I find something out

ok... just got past this... here's the deal from scratch (new hdd not locked)

1. You need the backup folder from your old hdd. Transfer it to your pc. The hdd password text is for your original drive only.

2. Get liveinfo beta 2 from team assembly

3. Plug your new hdd into your computer as a slave on the ide channel

4. Run the application and select the eeprom bin from your backup folder that you just tranfered

5. Select your new hdd from the drop down list (ie not your computer's hdd)

6. Record your "calculated password"

7. Use hddlock or unlockx in dos to lock your hdd with that password.

Your xbox should now accept that drive. For some reason the key is generated with the combination of the eeprom and the serial number of your hdd, so the password is different for each hdd.
