I've run into a wierd problem and I'm hoping someone here can help me out or point me in the right direction to find some answers. The problem is I can't read any data off my CD-Rom or DVD/CD-RW. Even comercial discs come up blank and will not boot. My Rom Drive will give me an error of "not accessible Incorrect Function" And My CDRW just comes up as a blank window. Even when there's no disc present in the drive. The other odd thing is it's burning discs(audio) just fine. I just recently did the following on my PC: Uninstalled a few programs (including MS Office 200) / Installed Norton Internet Security / Installed the DVD/CD-RW drive. I do not have a system restore point to return to :zombie: I tried checking Microsoft, Symantech, and Sony but couldn't find info on any of them with regards to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

How were the drives installed and are they detected in the bios?

The drivers were set up from the XP OS. And my system is detecting the hardware just fine. According to the profiles all drivers are installed and working properly. And no conflicts. After hours and hours of trial and error I believe the problem I'm having is a faulty EIDE port. I think I'm gonna have to by an adapter with a new one. Thanks, wish me luck! :clown:

Try installing an ASPI Level and see if it helps.

Thanks for the idea BlackDiamondJr but it didn't fix the problem :(
I've now also figured out that the Drives will recognise a disc if it's in the drive before I boot up. Once I open the drive however, it stops reading discs.

Have you tried deleting the IDE Controller that the drives are connected to in Device Manager and reboot so Windows can redetect and reinstall it?

Thanks again for your suggestion. I didn't realize I could do that with the IDE. I tried. I removed the IDE controler and both primary and secondary controlers, but still no luck :(
