develitate Jul 21, 2003, 01:30 AM I was ftping a few files over to my xbox, they finished xfering, i turned off my xbox, hit the power button to turn it back on, and nothing. It wont turn back on with the power button or eject. It seems a little hot, but nothing out of the ordinary. I switched outlets as well and still nothing. Im hoping its just over heated and needs to cool down, but who knows. Any help/info would be great.
Katz Jul 21, 2003, 02:37 AM happened to me as well....ur fyked! u just gootto buy a new one!
Devil-Man Jul 21, 2003, 02:48 AM that's shitty advise katz.
maybe the fuse in the psu got shot? it happens. check it and see, big glass bus fuse, can't miss it, if it's fine then maybe the psu just died all together. they usually go cheap around the net, look around, shouldn't cost more than 15-20 bux if yours is bad.
develitate Jul 21, 2003, 03:10 AM allright thanks Devil, Ill check it out
develitate Jul 21, 2003, 03:45 AM Hey Devil, im having a hard time finding the fuse. Is it wrapped in a rubber tubing located close to the back of the xbox?
Devil-Man Jul 21, 2003, 03:55 AM sure is, brotha.
develitate Jul 21, 2003, 11:57 PM Thanks again Devil, I changed the fuse and now my Xbox works perfectly.
Devil-Man Jul 22, 2003, 01:50 AM kick ***! :D
Cabrill Jul 22, 2003, 04:10 PM Where'd you get a spare fuse? They have them at radio shack or something?
Encript Jul 22, 2003, 05:31 PM Yeah where did you get the extra fuse from. Do thet sell them in a regular store or something like that. That could come in handy if i blow out my xbox fuse.
develitate Jul 22, 2003, 05:50 PM I bought the fuse at RadioShack, but im not sure I have the right one. The first replacement blew after only a few hours of use, and a 2nd one just blew after plugging the xbox into the wall. Im using 5 amp fuses. Anyone know what amp rating I should use?
Encript Jul 22, 2003, 07:32 PM Do you still have the original fuse does it say anything.
Devil-Man Jul 22, 2003, 08:41 PM throw a 20amp in there to be safe.
you can use larger amp fuses and it won't hurt anything. it's like in a car, when your 15 amp radio fuse blows, pop in a 30 :D
Ziggy Miggy Jul 23, 2003, 05:49 AM If the fuse is blowing there is obviously a problem with the circuitry , something is overloading and until rectifying the circuit will only get worse.
A possible power surge will also cause the fuse to blow , but in such a situation the unit will return to functioning correctly and continue to function normally after the fuse has been replaced with the correct rating fuse.
As stated before power supplies are relatively cheap ......compare it to the price of rebuilding your'e house for the sake of the correct fuse or $30.00 on a new power supply.
I wouldn't suggest anybody to "throw a 20 amp fuse in there to be safe" , Electrically speaking that would be a rather dangerous practice rather than "safe".
Voltage in a car is a lot lower compared to in-house MAINS VOLTAGE .
There is a reason any manufacturer puts a specific amp rating fuse in their equipment , one of those reasons is to provide overload protection to remaining circuits which if exposed to higher than rated currents (amps) will cause irrepairable damage to the unit and extreme cases cause fire.
I'm not trying to rain on anyones parade........but if you simply stick 20amps through something thats only designed for say 5 amps draw and there is still a short , something is going to hurt & hurt big time, the once repairable becomes the un-repairable.
It is because the fuse blows when the current threshold is breached , that keeps the rest of the unit (xbox or other elec equip) intact & repairable.
Sure an 8 amp fuse blows in a microwave oven , you can run a 10 amp in it (for a while till it blows , because something is failing) you feel great cause you repaired it yourself .....and you have the added bonus that you now emit a healthy green glow in the dark.
develitate Jul 23, 2003, 06:17 AM Thanks for the advice everyone. My xbox is continuing to blow fuses so im just going to replace the PSU. Better safe than sorry.
Devil-Man Jul 23, 2003, 10:02 AM wow, would have never thought about it that way ziggy. EXCELLENT advise!
