Thing is i have just bought the burner and i wanted to see how fast it would burn a full dvd data compilation. I know that the software will burn these at lowers speeds because it is safer is there a way to force 4x burn?I am using nero 6 ue.
i have read somewhere of a sony drive doing the same thing with recordnow max 4.60. so i guess its not a 'drive' issue.....I think
any help would be appreciated
:D
PS. pioneer dvr-106D

So are you only burning at 2x because you are worried about higher speed burns screwing up? Or are you simply not able to burn faster than 2x on 4x discs? Sorry but you weren't very clear with your post.

The 106 will burn at 4 x straight out of the box, providing you are using a good 4 X disk.
Get holds of some 4 X Riteks and you'll be laughing. I got the 106 just over a week ago and have used about a dozen Traxdata 4 X (ritek) without a problem.
Dont waste your time with datawrite princos (red tops), they are absolute CRA* ;) ..... make pretty coasters though !

Datawrite does seem to be having some quality control issues. If they are Datawrite Reds then as Philenfield mentioned there are no shortage of complaints about them. 4x Riteks are definitely worth the extra money. They are not only very compatible with your DVD Writer but they are also highly compatible with even the pickiest of DVD Players. BTW murasame did you make sure that DMA is selected?

jesterrace777 : yeah changed to DMA mode from PIO and test burned the princos at 4x and it worked!!!!! approx. 14~15 mins
I understand about the media, ill stay away from them in the future. Luckily i only bought 5.....heh
I cant find Riteks at my regular suppliers, guess i will try the local computer fair next week. Thanks Both of You.

Yeah not having DMA mode selected seems to be a common problem. Glad you got it sorted out though.

I can only get datawrite reds to burn at 2x with the 106. Too many coasters at 4x. I wont be buying these again.
